03/20/2022 Morning Update: Good news! Water peaked last night and has begun to drop this morning at the M-37 Monitor, Bowman’s Monitor and Taylor Road Monitor. Still rising at the Scottville Monitor, but I would expect that to also peak sometime in the next 24hrs…
Water temps are 39 – 41 degrees this morning but will rise with today’s weather. Clairity should be improving along with this drop and the next set of rains over the course of this week should not bring as much color with them. With any luck, they’ll be just heavy enough to maintain a good height, but that remains to be seen.
03/19/2022 Report: Hey guys, I know a Saturday report is not the norm for me, but I block my Saturday’s off during the peak season for a day of rest, and this is the first real free time I’ve had in a while…
Other than the fact that we got some more rain and melt off putting some color in the water and raising the water level to the “please use caution” levels I don’t have much more to add from John’s report, but I am well behind on posting any photos, so I’ll toss a few in here.
The shop hours are 8am to 6pm daily now and we’ve got lots of inventory if you’d like to support. (VERY much appreciated as always!!) There are a few items still lacking, but not nearly as much as it was as the supply chain, at least in our business, seems to have rebounded a little.
Another quick reminder about our Alaska trip! I think we may be holding the last few spots available at Naknek River Camp for this summer right now as well as some great dates for next year. This deal is hard to beat!!! This year’s dates are July 30th – August 6th, 2022 and next year will be August 12th – 19th, 2023 Click here for more details!
We’re just gonna have to keep an eye on that water level for now. Looks like we’ve got more precipitation in the forecast coming up, but as long as it doesn’t rain “hard” we should start seeing a rebound in a few days. My guess is that the swamp has fully broken in the upper Baldwin where much of this came from, but we’ll see…
As already mentioned in John’s report, remember to get your new fishing license on-line or at the shop before the end of the month and there is a new 1 fish limit on the Pere Marquette (and other rivers) from March 15 – May 15 (The Fly Water is still Catch and Release only!)
I’ve only been in the upper river twice so far this spring and it was busy on those days just as it has been most days. (Don’t forget there’s another 60 or so miles of open river below that if you like to explore, but I do understand the draw.) Just try to respect others both wading and boating along the way. It is appreciated if you could sit down while passing to present a lower profile and then coming as close as possible or even behind them if it’s doable is usually the way, but communication and some friendly conversation can confirm that! Above all, just have some fun and as John always reminds us; treat others as you would wish to be treated is the golden rule…
I’ve got some more “off day” chores to take care of now so I’m gonna cut this off. Thanks so much for reading as well as all of your support at the shop, motel or guide business. Till next time, tight lines…
