T-minus 3 days to AK… Wow, it’s been a minute since I posted here on this page, but hopefully you’ve been able to follow along on our various social media sites or their feeds here on this one. Fact is, I blocked off just about all of my free time almost a month ago for some family stuff, some goofing off and for my preparation prior to my departure to Alaska this coming Saturday. (Consider this my parting shot as I may or may not find time to type anything again here until my return to Baldwin on September 5th.)

I would have posted if I’d had I anything relevant to toss out atcha that John didn’t already cover in his reports, but I haven’t really been out fishing much truth be told and his page will most certainly be the place to look for some time coming. He, John Robinson and some others we’ve been booking have been fairly steady with trout trips already and are about to get even busier as the drakes, sulphers and such progress into hexes, etc…

I did take a minute to go fish part of a small stream section with my buddy Kirk last week that I always like to hit before leaving in memory of my old business partner Bob Fisher. We turned some big boys along with many smaller ones, but only put about a half dozen to hand like the 3 or 4 I’ve shown here. Beautiful day that stirred some beautiful old memories and a great friend to make new ones and share it with. Can’t ask for much more than that!

The one work project I have been making time for and steadily pecking away at has been the long awaited on-line shop that folks have been asking us about for quite some time now! (You asked for it, you got it!) In the past couple of weeks we’ve gone from just a few hundred items to well over a thousand now with “most” of our current stock of fly tying, rods, reels, waders, leaders/tippet, etc. now being available and just a few clicks away.

It’s been an interesting, time consuming and learning curve project to say the least, but we hope that it’ll make in easier and even convenient for you to support us from afar if you’re so inclined to do so. We are currently offering free shipping to the lower 48 and our “plan” is to continue to do so.

You will find that most if not all of our bigger ticket items are priced the same as anywhere else and the rest should be competitive at the very least. A HUGE thanks to all whom have already shopped our virtual shelves and I hope that the rest of you will find some time to check it out and see if there’s anything at all that we can help you with rather than a big box store…

I don’t think I ever posted the pic of our cleanup crew (More came later actually!) from this spring other than on social media. Both the river and BBT sincerely thank all of you!

This summer, July 4th, 2021, will mark a giant milestone for us! The doors of our little mom and pop here will have been open for 25 years! That’s a quarter of a century for those of you counting and I can honestly tell you that I wasn’t always certain we’d make it this far from those early days of almost barren shelves, but I sure am glad we have and with any luck, in an atmosphere of competition that seems to pop up on all fronts, our long standing commitment to you by way of honest reporting, customer service and our conservation efforts for this wonderful resource will keep it that way for another 25 and beyond. A sincere and heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who has ever stepped foot in our shop, motel or guide boats!! (You can now add made a few clicks to that list!)

I hope that everyone enjoyed the extended weekend we recently had that was bought & paid for by those that gave it all so we could do so! We were blessed with beautiful weather here in Baldwin and much of my family was able to come up for a memorial to my father that had been planned for last year prior to the pandemic and was put off. We spent a couple of great days remembering him as well as all of those that made it possible…

Most of my immediate family along with a few of our cousins…
To the tune of “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge… “I got all my sisters with me…”
My Uncle Stuart with the branches of my father’s tree that could make it up for the weekend…

I’m gonna have to cut this short now to go break down some rods and put together a bunch of other gear that’ll be making the trip with me, but I leave you with my hopes that you will all have a fun and productive summer! Please stop in the shop, stay at the motel or book one of our guides when you’re in the area. I will be working 6 to 7 days a week thru Mid October as I type, (Get back on the 5th of September and start my fall trips on the 6th…) but I do have some great fall dates still availale after that for anyone interested.

Call the shop to check on or book dates. We are currently open 8am to 6pm daily and on-line is 24/7!!! 231 745-3529 Tight lines, be safe, be well and stay positive! – Steve
