Time to “turn the page”…the spring 2021 steelhead season is wrapping up and our trout season is heating up!  I have had a couple awesome streamer trips since my last report and loving it!!!  We had ideal conditions a couple days and took advantage of it.  We also discovered some new addresses for future outings!  It feels really good to be pulling on the oars and working streamers again.  The grass is getting green and growing quickly, the trees are budding and trout fishing is upon us!  I am very excited for this spring and summer trout fishing.

John and I with a sunny day big brown…well done John!

I would like to thank everyone who fished with us this spring!  It was a great season and nice to catch up after missing most of last spring.  Your support and business mean the world to us….THANK YOU!  All our hard work and long hours are worth every second when we are making memories, smiles and friendships while fishing the Pere Marquette River.  Here are a couple more steelhead photos….

The Trout Opener is this Saturday…so here we go!  Time to sharpen our pencils and get back to work.  I am ready to go and have plenty of great availability in May, but June is filling up.  Please give the shop a call to book a guide trip and/or lodging 231-745-3529…full and half days are available.  All skill levels are welcomed…morning, noon or night we can accommodate your requests, but most trips will be geared towards the evening hatches.  BWO’s and black stones have been hatching, but the weather has been up and down.  The forecast looks to become more stable next week.  Henny’s and sulphurs are not far off either.

Streamers have been my best weapon to target browns.  Yellow, black, olive and tan have paid their dues last week in medium to large sizes, but don’t overlook smaller patterns on bright days.  White should start producing very well too.  Keep changing sizes, profiles and strip speeds until you find what will trigger them.  Small twitch bugs and attractors will begin to get some looks as well.  Pounding the banks and lumber will generate most strikes, but do not overlook the pockets and inside seams/collection areas.  The river is currently running at normal levels and clear.

Jeff scored this big brown on a streamer. We had a lot of fun!!!

It certainly seems like spring came early throughout the state.  Our season wrapped up a little sooner then normal and the big rivers are even winding down (way ahead of “normal”).  Maybe our hatches will start a little early then?  Only time will tell?   Keep an eye on our reports, so you don’t miss any action.  We will keep our finger on the pulse and continue to report new developments.  Drakes and Hexes are not that far off!  We have a couple excellent months ahead of us for trout fishing in Michigan.

Alan enjoyed a great streamer day in the rain! Thank You!

We will be hosting our Spring “River Clean-Up” Saturday – May 1.  Please contact the shop to sign up (231-745-3529)…just so we have a head count for dinner…stay tuned for more details.  Lets help keep our amazing resource clean and pristine.  Great people to meet and excellent river karma to gain…I am in and looking forward to it!!!

Good luck on the opener and be safe!

Later & Fish-On,

John
