Happy New Year from BBT! First snow fall of 2012 on the Baldwin River

Sorry for the long delay in reporting…I was very busy enjoying the holiday season and taking advantage of the nice weather (going fishing!). It looks like our extended fall is over. It was an incredibly mild December and we enjoyed some great fishing. We received our first major snow fall yesterday with more on the way and cooler temps in the extended forecast. However, with that being said there are plenty of steelhead to keep us busy throughout the winter.

The egg bite still remains strong (cream clowns, chartreuse nukes, OC nukes, clowns and early girl glow bugs), but we are also catching some fish on nymphs (Black stones, wiggle hexes, Pheasant Tails and sparrows). Do not be afraid of changing flies and working the runs/pools thoroughly before trying new water. Streamer fishing will remain good, but slower strips or swinging will generate better results. Leeches in Black, purple or olive will get you some tugs. There are plenty of steelies throughout the system to target. Please exercise extreme caution while launching and retrieving boats at the launches.

We have some great openings for guided trips and/or rooms at the Motel (great for snowmobilers too…there is tons of parking for trucks and trailers). We will be out fishing to keep our finger on the pulse, so please call the shop and put us to work. The traffic has slowed way down, but the fish are still available. We deploy several techniques during this time of year…bottom bouncing, floating line with indicators and (my personal favorite) streamers! Plus, we cater to every skill level…from very experienced anglers to beginners trying to learn the ropes. You are all welcome and will most likely walk away with some new knowledge or perspective. Keep an eye on the forecast and give us a call…1-877-422-5394…we would love to have you!
