It’s been a few weeks since my last report…sorry!  Life and fishing have side tracked me.  It has been a weird summer; the hatches/fishing have been up and down.  We are officially in the second half of “Trout Season”, but we still have lots of great options and opportunities!  Morning hoppers and attractor dries, twitch bugs, tossing small streamers and of course mousing after dark!

Charlie with a great dry fly “eat” before dark!

The “dog days” of summer are upon us!  Please keep an eye on water temperatures if you are planning on catch & release fishing.  Early mornings in the upper river or late evenings once the sun drops down.  The smoke haze has helped us out recently (keeping direct sun-load from cooking the river), but still keep an eye on the monitoring stations… here are the links M37, Bowman’s & Maple leaf

Paul with another slab…fun time guys and thanks!!!

Even though this summers fishing has been challenging (at times), it has been so much fun!  I love being on the river after dark; you never know what might happen?  A big trout silently grabs your fly, a beaver slaps it tail 10 feet away from you & makes your heart skip a beat, star gazing, great conversations, fish stories ….the list is endless.  There is so much more to “Trout Season” than “how many did you catch?” or “how big?…I cherish the remaining days and nights we have left…please give us a call to book a guide and/or lodging….231-745-3529.  We have lots of availability through the end of August for full and half-day trips!

Jeremy with a couple great browns that fell for a dry fly early in the morning!

It is hard to believe we are half-way through July already…incredible!  However, with that being said, it’s not too early to start thinking about your fall guide trips and lodging (for early kings and fall steelhead).  We have several great dates available in late August and early September for lower river king trips.  If you have never felt the hit of a fresh king on a crank bait; what are you waiting for???  Plus, we have some late-October and November availability for steelhead fishing.  We do it all!  Fly fishing is our “go to” technique, but we are also using hardware (spinning rods) and drifting beads under floats with bait casters.  Mixing it up in the fall can be extremely fun and productive…I prefer fly fishing, but I love catching fish and the strikes on gear is amazing!

Rich and Paul enjoyed our “Field trip” north to colder water

Alex and Eric were also up for seeing some new water…appreciate it guys!!!

Running out of time…I just wanted to thank everyone that fished with us thus far this summer!  And a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for the last 30 years!!!!  What an amazing accomplishment and BBT could not have done it without each and every one of you over all those years!!!  We are very humbled and grateful!!

Good luck out there!!!

Later,

John
