Pere Marquette River Trout Fishing Report. Trout fishing is good!!! It’s June….HERE WE GO!!!!
The river is currently up and running with some color…higher and dirtier the further you are down stream. We had a few storm systems pass through the last few days and forecasting another this evening? We shall see what happens? The river leveled off over night; but, depending on what happens tonight we might see another bump in water??? But, the streamer fishing was really good the last few days. Medium sized patterns in natural colors produced the best results!

The fishing has been up and down over the last week. Very tough at moments and then explosive dry fly takes at times…knocking on doors, watching the river and keeping the faith has paid off for me most days/nights. The night time hatches (Gray drakes, some ISO’s, stones, yellow sallies and even a few hex) are still rolling and a few (very few) hexes have been reported in the hex water. It could be challenging dry fly fishing for a day or two…but, you never know? I have experienced some hatches in high water over the years that were extremely productive…”you don’t know if you don’t go!

Our guide trip bookings are down relative to years past, so give us a call to book a guided float trip! We have openings available throughout the next couple months…231-745-3529. Full or half days are available!!! June is prime time dry fly fishing with Gray Drakes and hexes! Mousing is certainly a great option at this point too! June is such a fun month to be a fly fishermen…let us show you why! I still have some great dates available…June 16 – 18, 20, 23, 26 – July 2, so let’s go fishing! Steve and John Robinson also have several prime dates available.

Can’t fish the evening hatch….try banging the banks with bigger dries (you might be surprised what jumps out of the river to grab your fly!!!). Watch a grassy bank with damsels fluttering around, you might catch a great fish in the middle of the day…timing is everything! Not getting any bites…try going sub-surface with nymphs, swinging soft hackles or small streamers. Or better yet…not getting any bites; enjoy sitting on the bank of a trout stream and watching the water. You have options…try making the most of them and enjoying being on the river. I am excited for what’s coming up and I would love to show you why!

The banks are coming alive…ants, spiders, moths, damsels…you get the picture. Those are all a staple food source for trout. It’s not too early to start searching with rubber-legged dries and/or twitch bugs. I love trout fishing and what we have in front of us! It’s magical!!! Sitting on the bank (or boat) waiting, watching, hunting the river for rising trout…heaven on earth!!! After all these years of trout fishing it never gets old; it never is the same, it never is predictable, it never is dependable, it never is repeatable, it never is describable; yet, it never disappoints, it is always memorable and you are driven for the next outing!!! 2026 trout season is here and going to be fantastic!!!
Good luck out there!!!
Later,
John
