Pere Marquette River Trout Fishing Report
The PM is in great shape currently! We received a good shot of rain on Sunday that colored up the river for a few days, but is dropping back to normal levels and clarity. The extended forecast looks beautiful with perfect dry fly conditions. We have been experiencing some excellent gray drake hatches…a great rebound from last year’s hatches! Sulphurs are on the menu in the right sections of river along with yellow sallies, larger stones and sporadic caddis (Iso’s and hexes in a few weeks). We did get “spoiled” with a couple epic all day hatches last week when the weather was cooler, but since the weather heated up the hatches have been concentrated to the evenings.

Our guide trip bookings are down relative to years past, so give us a call to book a guided float trip! We have opening available throughout the next couple months…231-745-3529. Full or half days are available!!! June is prime time dry fly fishing with Gray Drakes and Hexes in the next couple weeks! Mousing is certainly an option at this point too! June is such a fun month to be a fly fishermen…let us show you why!

Can’t fish the evening hatch….try banging the banks with bigger dries (you might be surprised what jumps out of the river to grab your fly!!!). Not getting any bites…try going sub-surface with nymphs, swinging soft hackles or small streamers. Or better yet…not getting any bites; enjoy sitting on the bank of a trout stream and watching the water. You have options…try making the most of them and enjoying being on the river. I am excited for what’s coming up and I would love to show you why!

Streamers are still a productive option when nothing is hatching. Smaller natural colored patterns in clear water and bright skies. Adjust your offerings based on the water/weather conditions. Plus, watch the weather…if we get a pop-up storm and the river colors up for a minute; it could be “game-on!” with streamers? Or even an overcast day could get the fish “looking” mid-day?

The after dark waking fly program is a great option throughout the summer months. Durning the dog-days of the summer the nighttime fishing can be incredibly productive and yield some trophy fish! It’s something we (the BBT Guide Staff) love doing, so reach out to the shop and hop in one of our boats to experience it! All skill levels are welcomed!!!

The banks are coming alive…ants, spiders, moths…you get the picture. Those are all a staple food source for trout. It’s not too early to start searching with rubber-legged dries and/or twitch bugs. I love trout fishing and what we have in front of us! It’s magical!!! Sitting on the bank (or boat) waiting, watching, hunting the river for rising trout…heaven on earth!!! After all these years of trout fishing it never gets old; it never is the same, it never is predictable, it never is dependable, it never is repeatable, it never is describable; yet, it never disappoints, it is always memorable and you are driven for the next outing!!! 2026 trout season is here and going to be fantastic!!!
Good luck out there!!!

Argentina 2026 – Mission Complete!!!
We just returned from our Argentina mission and it was incredible!!! First and foremost, thanks to our clients who joined us – Scott, Paul, Wayne, Tom, Cody and Brett! Really appreciate you guys traveling so far to share this experience. Patagonia is an amazing place, pure rivers, healthy wild trout and fantastic people. And of course, a HUGE “GRACIAS” to the Fly Maniacs team – Pedro, Gullermio, Julio and Mendo! You guys did an awesome job guiding us! Each and everyone of you worked so hard for us…all day…everyday!!! You helped us get into some fish of a lifetime! You coached us, critiqued us, made us laugh and most importantly welcomed us to you home water. Our friendships grew and is stronger then ever! I miss you guys already and wish you the best for the remaining season!
This was BBT’s first client trip to Argentina in May (we have done many since 2007, but always in January). My amigo (Scott) and I have scouted it out the prior two May’s. Pedro hosted us and introduced us to their late fall program. It’s like our November weather-wise, but this year we had unseasonably nice weather. We got spoiled by the air temps and lack of wind (which again is unheard of)…the best of both worlds!
We fished 6 days on the Rio Limay outside of Bariloche. We covered different sections each day with 2 boats per section. Covered long stretches of the river stripping streamers on 7wts with 250 grain sinking lines. Medium sized flies work well and make it easier to cast all day. The crew had incredible lunches for us daily and the dinner at Hosteria were “over the top” each night. Plenty of malbec, trout and laughs….THANK YOU!!!! I will never forget it and looking forward to next year. We are still finalizing the dates and rates for May 2027….Stay tuned!
Here’s just a slice of the week….Steve is working on a much bigger report!

Stay tuned for details for next years trip!!!
