Shop Hours 8am – 6pm Daily
It has been a very fun week of guiding the Pere Marquette River for fall steelhead! Great conditions and fun clients in the boat. There are fishable numbers of steelhead throughout the river system at this point…covering water is paying off. We had a couple days of colored up water and decent flows, but that quickly washed out. We had a respectable rain system move through last night which will bump the needle back up hopefully?!?! It is moving in that direction….hopefully, it keeps going up? Check the graphs.
Busy week with little to no time…therefore, this is going to be brief. We have been covering the middle and lower river with flies, beads and hardware. Making your first few drifts count without disturbing the water too much…stealth has been paying off! Natural toned egg patterns and beads have been the best for me. Both 8mm – 12mm beads have been getting attention. Egg patterns in #10’s – #8’s in pale pinks and oranges (plus, don’t over look chartreuse) are getting looks from steelhead and trout. As the water cools off chartreuse will become “go to” color in egg patterns and beads.
November is one of my favorite times to fish the Pere Marquette River! It’s here and I am looking forward to spending lots of time on the river. We still have some great openings for guided trips and/or lodging available throughout November. Personally, I have November 18 – 20, 24 & 30 available at the moment…call the shop to lock in a date with any of our guides…231-745-3529.
The shop is loaded up on steelhead fishing gear. We have everything for your fishing needs….flies, tying materials, bait, hardware, fly rods/reels, beads, bobbers, centerpins, bait casters, spinning gear, waders, outerwear, swag….we got what you need no matter how you want to fish.
I had the opportunity to take my family fishing for a day and it was awesome! Heather and Alex did a great job getting some fish in the net for me on a “un-scheduled” day off. Nice work ladies…love showing you my office! Awesome family day!!!
Just a friendly reminder…beads are NOT legal in the “Flies-Only” section (even if pegged above a fly). Plus, it’s a 1 fish (Steelhead) limit from Gleason’s Landing to Lake Michigan year round…1 fish per person per day.
Good luck out there and looking forward to making some memories, seeing friends on the river and getting humbled by a few steelhead!

John
