Just a quick heads up on river conditions for those of you contemplating a trip. The river is already out of its banks in places and continues to rise. Headwaters are in the fields and woods… Extreme caution is advised! On the plus side, here comes more chrome… ;^) We will attempt to keep you updated as the situation evolves…

Gauge at Scottville earlier this morning.
John took this shot at Green Cottage around 10am.
Not much to report on the fishing end of things since last report. Did a trip on Thursday with Kris and John. Kris turned a couple of fish on Streamers that we saw, hooked one HOT Steelhead that got the better of us after a nice air show and caught a few smaller trout. Good times with good guys…
John’s (read here Alex’s ;^) new Hooligan XL.
Was going to take advantage of the nice weather on Friday and get in one last good bike ride, but John suggested we try out his (daughter’s) new raft instead. (Her raffle ticket actually won the drift boat at the PMTU banquet and they switched it out for a raft with Stealthcraft. Very cool! ;^)
Pretty slick craft is my review!
Long story short, boat handled great, was easy to launch and fun to fish out of. The beer was cold, the brats were delicious and the company was great. Nice to have a day to just hang out together after a long season! We each caught a bunch of smaller tout that I neglected to photograph and I had two hot Steelhead on back to back that simply kicked my butt… (One eventually found some wood, the other a tossed the fly.) Guess I can’t get too upset with my clients when they lose ‘em either ‘eh?!? Hahaha…
John working a run. Fishing from inside the boat while standing was nice also.
Saturday was the annual fall river cleanup and we had a nice turnout. Not the 30 to 50 like days of old, but better than recent history and it was nice to see some more folks come out to give back a little.
A fair number of participants had already headed out before we got around to the photo unfortunately, but here’s some of the great people for ya!
Getting organized and figuring out who should go where, who has room in a boat, etc. is always a bit like herding cats at times, (Hehe) but we got around to it eventually and had at least one boat in every section from M-37 down to Walhalla along with a number of participants that walked in various access points. Not quite enough to get it all obviously, but more than enough to make a huge difference! Loads of trash was removed from the river and its banks so a MASSIVE THANK YOU goes out to all of you that took the time!!
Stuart digging into a log jam out of my boat.
Dennis is a ninja with his homemade trash and line remover. It works great!
Enjoyed a great appreciation party at my barn afterwards and spent Sunday recovering from said party as well as a cold I’m just now starting to get over, (Poor wife has it now… Opps.) but Monday found me out on the river in the constant pouring rain and rising river with Stuart down low. Good beer was the theme of the day, probably not the best way to get over being sick, but it’s OK, I’m a professional at being sick! Haha…
We have found in the past that a good Founders brew often times turns on the bite. Worth a try!
Not long after the photo above the trick worked. Had one fish chase a hot-n-tot that Stu was pitching, I hooked a hot hen on an egg fly that I battled to the side of the boat (My net man was a bit rusty, oh well! ;^) and Stu had one other chrome fish take a swipe at the crank bait. After a very wet lunch we called it a day early and continued the beer tasting back home…
Don’t remember now who dropped off this gem for me some time back now, but thank you, it was delicious!
Steve from Barski stopped by to see Stu with an extra special treat!
I contacted my clients for tomorrow and the next day, some of my favorite regulars, to offer up a reschedule due to conditions, but we’re going for it anyway. Big clown eggs and Streamers will be on the menu and we’ll see what happens!
Not much else to tell for the moment, but I’ll try to post some sort of update either tomorrow or Friday night on conditions. Tight lines all,
