Shop Hours 8am – 6pm Daily

“March Madness” has begun and it feels awesome!!!  It is fantastic to be out on the river everyday again, catching up with fellow fishermen (and women), seeing people excited to be outside and shaking hands with wild PM steelhead daily!!!  The shop is ramping up with business (We are still looking for shop employees…please see below to join the team!).  The guides are all excited to be hanging out after work and catching up on new & old stories.  Amazing energy!!!!

We received a large amount of rain early Saturday morning (Friday night).  The river is rising and might not crest for a day or two (depending on the section of river)?  The water temps have been hovering in the upper 30’s to low 40’s (almost the mid-40’s at times).  Please approach the river with caution!!!!  Wading will be tough for a few days and boating might be challenging with new obstacles from the long winter.  Most of the river is clear to float, but high winds and saturated banks drops trees.  There are a few spots in the middle river that will need to be cut before floating in the higher flows (trees we were going under, but now you can’t).  Be prepared and be safe.

It was a very mild first week of the season and a welcomed start.  There are plenty of fish throughout the system and more pushing in with the higher water.  We had a very tough winter, but things are aligning perfectly to have a great run and prolonged season.  We will be on the “front-lines” and keep you informed as conditions develop and change.  We have been spread out from top to bottom and all reports have been positive…some better then others and timing is everything.  Don’t take that the wrong way; you still have to fool them with the right presentation and offerings.

We have been fishing several different techniques over the last week.  Switch rods with floating lines & indicators, Chuck-n-duck, bait casters with bobbers & beads and some streamers too.  We are prepared for each and every client’s desire and river conditions.  “Guide’s Choice” is your best bet for getting pictures, but if you have a certain technique you would like to improve upon and/or try a new rig you always wanted to try out…we got you covered!  We love catching fish….tossing hardware, drifting bobbers & beads, fly fishing, swinging streamers or stripping streamers…we can do it and will do it!!!

Just a friendly reminder that BEADS are illegal in the “Flies Only” Section of the PM.

The best action last week was on 10mm beads and egg patterns in pale oranges, yellows and clown combo’s.  We did catch some fish on nymphs too (black stones, hexes, fry and PM Blondes).  As the season develops and the water warms look for the salmon fry to start popping and becoming more of a food source or target for steelhead.  Depending on water conditions 8mm & 12mm beads had their moments (which means size #10 & #6 egg patterns).  Rag eggs in varying sizes are always a go to in my boat and never be afraid of trying a “home-brew” pattern that came off your vise this winter.  They are curious creatures and sometimes bite because of that trait.

Matt landed a few nice fish on the group’s annual outing…fun time guys & THANK YOU!!!

Dennis with a beautiful spring buck that took a 12mm bead.
Tom with a couple that hit the net in high water…fun day guys! Thank You!!!

We have sporadic guide openings and lodging available, so please give the shop a call to book and/or inquire….231-745-3529.  Here are the dates for guide trips still open (at least one boat available on these dates and more then one on a few):

March 15, 17, 22, 29 & 31

April 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 – 17

Please exercise caution while on the river and don’t push your luck.  Be safe and prepared; it’s always better to live to fish another day!  Please respect your fellow anglers and their space and a little communication goes a long way.  “Ask before you cast” and that should resolve any potential issues.  Good luck and here we Go!!!!
