Shop Hours 8am – 6pm Daily
Here we go!!!! It’s March and the Pere Marquette river is in great shape for spring steelhead fishing. The extended forecast looks promising for a slow melt and steady flows. We had a very long and cold winter with LOTS of snow. Which will help our water levels after a few mild winters in a row. There is still plenty of snow in the woods and frozen water in the swamps. Hopefully, we see a nice gradual melt throughout the month…wishful thinking, but we will see what Mother Nature serves up.
There are plenty of fish throughout the system. I have heard some very good reports from the lower river, upper sections and the middle…right place at the right time helps too! We will be focusing on traditional spring techniques…bobbers & beads, switch rods with floating lines and bobber, Chuck-n-duck and even some streamers. We can cover every situation our clients want to do, or whatever conditions call for.

I start my busy guide season tomorrow and I am pretty excited about it! It was a long winter with not much fishing. However, my fly boxes are full and I painted plenty of beads for the season over the winter. Look for 10mm & 12mm beads in colored water (or cold water) and 8mm in clear and/or bright conditions. Same mindset with flies…larger and brighter eggs in cold or colored water and smaller natural colors in low water and/or bright conditions. Bugs will generate some bites too (Small stones, caddis, hexes, steelhead buggers and salmon fry).
We still have some great dates available for this spring with our guide staff and Motel…give the shop a call to inquire 231-745-3529. My book is pretty full, but I do have March 8 & 10, April 5, 12, 13, 15 & 17 still available. The shop is loaded up with new inventory and gear…swing by!
I am running short on time at the moment, but my next report will be a lot more detailed with pictures and more detailed conditions. See you around or on the river!!!
