Sorry for the delayed report!  I have been very busy on and off the river.  I have been guiding everyday while in the middle of a home renovation project….so, I have been spread thin.  Being on the river feels great everyday and is time well spent!  Fishing has been challenging for the most part.  Low water and concentrated fishing pressure in the middle and lower river has made things tougher than normal.  We have been working hard everyday and finding some players, but sunny days have been tough!

We have been throwing the “kitchen sink” at them…fly fishing, bead fishing and tossing plugs/spinners.  Beads in natural colors (pale oranges, peaches and yellows in 8-12 mm) have been getting some attention.  Plus, don’t be afraid to try some bigger/brighter colors (flies & beads) as the water temps drop…big and bright sometimes gets their attention in cold water.  The tougher conditions are getting “cut-throat” with some anglers “low holing” and staying out ahead of everyone…well I have news for them; you don’t catch them all!!! Proper presentation and patience will fool the fish even if “X” amount of boats have fished through that water.  The right time & place with quality drifts is paying dividends.

We are very busy until this weekend and then we have available dates for guide trips…keep an eye on the weather and give us a call to book a full or half day guide trip…231-745-3529.  Plus, we have lodging available for fisherman and hunters.  The season is not over…we have some great fishing opportunities before winter sets in…give us a call!

I also want to thank everyone who cared enough to attend and participate in the river clean-up!  It was a huge success and a ton of fun!  It’s nice to gather with people willing to donate their time and efforts to help maintain our beautiful resource.  We made a difference and gained some great river Karma…thank you!!!  The river is a better place and  you all should feel proud of our efforts….THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!

Sorry, but I gotta run…thank you to all our clients, guests and customers!  Without you we would not be doing what we love!  Looking forward to the next couple weeks and praying for more rain (NOT SNOW)!

This is an “overdue” picture from mid-October…Bill with an epic double on kings!!!

RIP – Ray Schmidt.  #5181  Thank you for everything you did for me (and us…and our fisheries!)…. your lessons, guidance and leadership will never be forgotten.  I will do my best to attempt to carry on the tradition…”protect and preserve”…  You were a pioneer and a legend, but an even better person!!!  Cheers Ray and thank you for taking time to mentor to me.

Later,

John
