Not much time to report; but not much new to report. The river is still extremely low and clear with very little flow. Tons of fish are spawning and the “egg wash” is huge right now. Almost anywhere you stand in the river there will be eggs tumbling down in front of you. It is very impressive to see how many fish are stacked on the beds. The holes are still holding new fish and we have been watching big migrations the last couple mornings. There are more fresh fish moving in and we are still targeting the new ones!
We have been extremely busy and truly appreciate it! Burning the candle at both ends keeps your finger on the pulse of the river. It’s been awesome to be out there every day and having so much fun. The weather has been WAY too warm, but that’s about the change soon. The extended forecast is calling for more “normal” October weather and even some rain. A couple days of rain would help the situation; wash out more eggs, bring in more salmon & steelhead, and flush out some dead fish. Some spots are getting pretty nasty with dead fish in this hot weather. I hope we have a wet and cool October & November.
The salmon run started late, but is shaping up to be a really good one! There are plenty of fish throughout the system and more on their way. We will probably see an extended king season and hopefully see our first good push of steelhead in a few weeks. I am eagerly awaiting steelhead season! I love “hunting” the river for fall steelies…it’s challenging, extremely rewarding and sometimes humbling! But that is what make them so special to catch…they are not easy! Give us a call to check out some steelhead action and do a float trip with us.
Our guide staff is all booked up until Mid-October, but we still have some excellent dates available at our Motel. Our fall/winter steelhead trips are starting to fill-up…it’s time to book your late-October/November steelhead trip…give us a call 231-745-3529. November is one of my favorite months to fish the Pere Marquette River…come see why!
The shop is getting “picked over”, but we are doing our best to reorder and re-load ASAP. We apologize for the inconvenience…but, ’tis the season; we have been swamped! THANK YOU and SORRY, if we don’t have what you need at the moment!!! We will get the shelves re-stocked ASAP! The guys at the shop have been working hard, the housekeeper have been busy and it feels good to be grinding everyday guiding the river!
Thank you for your continued support of our Shop, Motel and Guides!!! We appreciate the business and friendships. It’s a competitive industry and easy to shop on-line, but walking into a local shop with “boots on the ground” is one of our biggest assets! We have guides on the river everyday…a shop staff that fishes on their days off…honest and recent fishing reports…a friendly shop atmosphere that welcomes new anglers to seasoned veterans…fly fishing or spin fishing – we do it all!!! If you haven’t fished with us or stopped into the shop…please do!!!
Sorry to be so brief….here are a few that didn’t get away. Another fantastic week in the books on the Pere Marquette River!!!
