Shop Hours 8am – 6pm Daily

We are currently in a “holding pattern” due to warm water.  We started canceling guide trips last Saturday and will hopefully be back on the river in the next few days.  Please keep an eye on the river temps before you head out to your favorite trout stream.  This heat wave effected all streams and rivers throughout the lower peninsula (at least at some point).  It’s taking the PM a little bit to recover and consistently be flowing below 68 degrees.  It certainly has been a punch in the gut to cancel trips (let alone, not go fishing) during the hex hatch.  “But, this too shall pass” and we will be rewarded.  Thank you to those who resisted the temptation to fish durning this heat wave…it’s appreciated!!!

A good friend sent me this picture…Eli’s first mouse fish. A dandy!!! Well done!

Charlie with a great fish on a tough evening

Anyways, the hex hatch was in full swing and probably has been going strong in this hot weather.  We have not been out (since last Friday), so I am just making an assumption.  Hopefully, we can catch the tail-end once we can get back on the hex water?  It’s been a very strange spring/summer thus far.  It was cold and dry; then the heat parked on us and baked everything.  We are starting to see a couple cloudy days with evening lows dropping into the low 60’s which will give the river some time to recover.

Joe battled this fish out of some serious wood…gotcha!
Kristy did a great job mousing…mission accomplished!

Joe scored this awesome steelhead on a hex dry fly!

Thank you to all the customers that have been displaced due to the warm water situation.  Sorry, it’s been difficult for us too.  We are looking forward to the “second half of summer trout fishing” (July & August)!  Early morning hoppers and rubber legged creations, tricos, late nights mousing…there is still plenty of trout fishing to go.  Plus, we have plenty of guide trips available and lodging…give us a call 231-745-3529.

Jeff and Drew kept the rods bend on an overcast day!

Chris and Tim paid tribute to their late friend…RIP – Taps!  Thanks for everything and good times as always!

Sean and I with a solid hex fish…too much fun guys! Thank you!!!

We have some great summertime trout fishing remaining this summer!  There are so many opportunities and options!  Don’t let the conditions discourage you!  If the water is up…go streamer fishing!  If it’s too cold for a hatch…try attractors and/or go mousing.  Can’t fish the evening hatch….try banging the banks with bigger dries (you might be surprised what jumps out of the river to grab your fly!!!).  Not getting any bites…try going sub-surface with nymphs, swinging soft hackles or small streamers.  Or better yet…not getting any bites; enjoy sitting on the bank of a trout stream and watching the water.  You have options…try making the most of them and enjoying being on the river.  I am excited for what’s coming up and I would love to show you why!

Good luck out there!  Be safe and have fun while you are on the river.

Later-

John Karakashian
