PLEASE don’t hit the trout on the Pere Marquette River tonight if you care about the fishery… (Even if you plan to catch and keep some smaller fish that you must release may “swim away just fine” but they aren’t.)

Trust me, we hate it just as much or more than you do when this happens and we wind up losing respect for some people we think should know better every time as well, but it isn’t looking good for a while now with this weather.

It’s already 68° and climbing fast at Bowman’s as shown, Mapleleaf (at 67.3° now) was at 63.1 this morning, but will hit and far exceed the 68° mark very soon and my guess is that even M-37 (66.9° now) will wind up beyond the safe measure soon as well… (We do not have a gauge in the swamp, but you can safely add a few degrees to the one at Mapleleaf for that measure.)

You can find links to these gauges and more right here on our website. Please let them live to be caught another day…

Thank you and I will post a much longer and better report on Monday. Stay cool my friends!

Thanks for the information on temps. Need to place signs at access points notifying no fishing temps over 68 with explanation why
Agreed. I wish our DNR would close the river to fishing when temps are too high like they do in a few places out west…
