First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone that participated in our river clean-up!!! We has a solid turn out and covered a ton of water. We certainly did not get it all, but we made a HUGE difference to our beloved river. We worked hard on a beautiful day and enjoyed a great BBQ at Steve’s afterwards. It is nice to know some people still care enough to dedicate their time and energy. Your efforts will be rewarded!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
Trout season is happening around here! The grass is growing fast, the trees are blooming and getting full. It’s been a warm and dry stretch since the clean-up. The river is very low and clear. We have a few scattered storms forecasted over the next few days, but I doubt it will amount to much? Great conditions for dry fly fishing and after-dark mousing right now. I have heard of a few good reports, but I have not been out in a week (taking care of some projects, hanging out with the family and preparing for what you will read about in my next report…Stay tuned).

Look for sulphurs, sallies, quills, stones and then gray drakes in the very near future. It appears nature is a little bit ahead of schedule…We spotted our first hummingbirds and orioles last week (about a week early)! Not really sure, if that will translate into early mayfly activity…but, who knows? The evenings are holding heat and mosquitoes are out (plus, ticks…check yourself after fishing or mushroom hunting).
The shop is loaded up with all the flies, apparel, lures, tackle, rods, reels, waders….and everything else you might need or just want. We pride ourselves in carrying the best gear for every angling enthusiast! Fishing is fun…fly, spin, bait…we got you covered. We have a huge selection of the “right” fly tying materials for our region. But, if you need something we don’t carry; let us know and we will get it for you!
We have guide trips available and Lodging at out Motel throughout the trout season, so give us a call to book a trip and/or a Room…231-745-3529. Streamers, dry flies & nighttime mousing are all on the menu…Full and Half Day trips are available.

The banks are coming alive…ants, spiders, moths…you get the picture. Those are all a staple food source for trout. It’s not too early to start searching with rubber-legged dries and/or twitch bugs. I love trout fishing and what we have in front of us! It’s magical!!! Sitting on the bank (or boat) waiting, watching, hunting the river for rising trout…heaven on earth!!! After all these years of trout fishing it never gets old; it never is the same, it never is predictable, it never is dependable, it never is repeatable, it never is describable; yet, it never disappoints, it is always memorable and you are driven for the next outing!!! 2025 trout season is here and going to be fantastic!!!
Good luck out there and enjoy the resource! Do what you can to protect and preserve it…you never know how long it will be available???
Later!
John
