Hey guys, sorry, long time… BBT’s annual spring river cleanup is this Saturday! Please let the shop know if you plan to attend and how many will be in your party if you can, but last-minute additions are always more than welcome!! (231) 745-3529

BBT will cover the car spots for anyone floating, provide garbage bags and host an appreciation dinner at my pole barn next to the shop (South side.) afterwards. 9am meet at the shop to figure out beats and then dinner will be at 6pm for anyone who wants to stick around. We hope to see you there…
I hope everyone had a great opener! We just did our usual 3-4 boat flotilla with a late start, an early finish and more focus on hanging out, eating and drinking than the actual fishing and it was good. The mid-day high sun and low water didn’t make for “hot” action, but a few were caught and from the sounds of it, both the early and late bite was fairly solid.

Our weather still can’t fully decide on what it wants to do, but on the warmer days with a little less wind there have been some hatches and a few fish looking up. (Stones & BWOs along with a few caddis and Hendrickson’s. BWOs don’t mind it a little cooler or even a nice drizzle…)

Nymphing is always a great option if you’re into it, but we tend to go right to streamers if they’re not looking up and adjust according to water level and clarity. Ther’s still a few steelhead here and there doing their thing, so egg imitations are also a great bet and pretty much are here all year around.

On the spinning end of things, the usual crank/jerk baits (like Rapalas) are a solid choice as well as spinners and all of the usual live baits. Again, adjust size and color according to level/clarity and consider water temps while playing around with your retrieve speeds & methods…

We really didn’t get any of that rain last night we were hoping for, but the forecast is showing a chance yet today and a few more days coming right up where we might get some worth mentioning. Fingers crossed as I prefer a little more height and color than we have at the moment, but early, late and overcast are all good triggers for now.

The shop is fairly loaded with everything you’ll need or maybe just want for the spring/summer season, please stop in and see us if you’re in the area and phone orders are always welcome as well. We also have guides and motel rooms open pretty much daily now for anyone interested in spending a quality day on the water with us and we’d love to have ya! (231) 745-3529 8am to 6pm daily.

I’m going to cut this short now and try to get some other things done, but I do hope to see a few of you in my boat this trout season or at least out on the water having some fun! Be well and please be safe out there…
Steve
