Well, it’s finally November!!!  Fall and winter steelhead fishing is here and happening!  The river is still very low and clear, but it has been raining on and off today.  Plus, the forecast has rain in the area for the next several days, but it might not effect the river much?  It’s been a drizzle thus far, but every drop helps?  Regardless, we have some overcast conditions for the next few days which will help the fishing!

Last week we had a great migration of fall steelhead hit the river!  It was impressive to witness and fun to be in a “ball” of fish for a few days.  The fish have scattered throughout the river system now.  Despite low water the fish decided to swim up stream…it was a great mix of adults and skippers.

Lots of skippers and super skippers in the mix

November is one of my favorite times to fish the Pere Marquette River!  It’s here and I am looking forward to spending lots of time on the river.  Today is one of my last days off for a little bit, so I had to get a few things fixed on my trailer and boat (a huge thank you to Stealthcraft as always!!!).  Otherwise, I would have been on the river!  We still have some great openings for guided trips and/or lodging available throughout November.  Personally, I have November 10, 17 – 20, 23 – 25 & 30 available at the moment…call the shop to lock in a date with any of our guides…231-745-3529.

First one of the season for me!
Joe got into the action as well…great work buddy!

Presentation, presentation and better presentation has been the key to success in the low clear water.  Making your first few drifts count without disturbing the water too much…stealth has been paying off!  Natural toned egg patterns and beads have been the best for me.  I have not tried any streamers or hardware yet, but I will very soon!  We do it all…fly fishing (C&D, Indicators, stripping streamers and swinging streamers) and spin fishing (tossing plugs/spinners & Bobbers/beads)…whatever the clients want to do we got you covered!

The shop is loaded up on steelhead fishing gear.  We have everything for your fishing needs….flies, tying materials, bait, hardware, fly rods/reels, beads, bobbers, centerpins, bait casters, spinning gear, waders, outerwear, swag….we got what you need no matter how you want to fish.

Just a friendly reminder…beads are NOT legal in the “Flies-Only” section (even if pegged above a fly).  Plus, it’s a 1 fish (Steelhead) limit from Gleason’s Landing to Lake Michigan year round…1 fish per person per day.

Good luck out there and looking forward to the next 6 weeks…making some memories, seeing friends on the river and getting humbled by a few steelhead!

Later,

John
