Hey guys, just realized it’s been a minute again… Hopefully you’ve been able to follow me on my Facebook or Instagram accounts where you’ll find more frequent little updates, but otherwise you’ll always find it here eventually. (With all of the recent scams and imposters out there on social media I’m not really excepting any new friend request, but you should still be able to “follow” me on either.)
The phone continues to ring with questions about the run and I’m happy to report that after the last several days (Of course, right after what turned out to be a slower holiday weekend for most.) we’ve seen the river fill in quite nicely up into the mid sections.
I’m actually not sure how the upper (Fly Water) sections have been doing as none of my closer friends or colleagues have been fishing much that far up, but it should also see some of those fish from the recent bigger pushes any day now if it hasn’t already, but keep in mind, that water is very low and clear!
There is some rain in the forecast, so we’ve got our fingers crossed to see a nice bump with some color. It’s always a lot tougher to get them to bite very well during a bright day in these low and clear conditions, but I haven’t seen too many complaints from the first 50 or so miles of river since about Tuesday/Wednesday.
Below here is a short video I made on a solo trip Tuesday morning in the lower river where you can get a little bit of an idea of how they were pushing up, but trust me, you had to actually be there to get a real appreciation of it. Those fish continued to push right on upstream overnight filling in the mid-sections nicely and as luck would have it, we’ve continued to see more pushes behind them daily since.
I want to take a minute to congratulate my wife Karen on putting up with my shenanigans for 35 years of marriage officially on the 2nd… I had three days blocked off to celebrate that with her, but life and business had other plans, so we didn’t wind up leaving Baldwin to do anything really cool. Hence, the solo trip on the 3rd while she was actually dealing with work stuff. (I suppose I could say I was “working” also since it was, in fact, a scouting mission for my guide trip the next day! šš)
I have a great friend who is also a regular client that had to back out on me for yesterday and today, but he took care of me very well and I managed to get Steve from Barski out for a short trip yesterday morning in his stead. (I’m taking advantage of today and my usual Saturday off to get a few other things done like this report and some other chores before getting back after it on Sunday.)
We didn’t stay out very long, but we did see some nice pushes of new fish moving upriver again, hooked our fair share of them on Thundersticks and even managed to land a few of those before leaving to get him back in time for his golf league! This also gave me time to go for a nice motorcycle ride while the weather was awesome and check on a few mid-river landings where I found some happy guides and clients pulling out in the afternoon…
Please remember to respect one another and keep in mind that a smile, a wave or even some brief communication can go a long way towards everyone accomplishing the shared goal of having a great time. That’s about all I’ve got for you right now; the shop is fully stocked with everything from fly gear to bait casters, spinning equipment, center pins, clothing, rain gear, waders and in-between! Please stop in and see us if you get a chance while in the area and as always, we truly appreciate your business…
Steve
Iām a retired airline pilot. (United). When I was flying the A320 I bid most of my trips to Anchorage Alaska with a 24 hour layover. I did that in June, July, and August for four years. My son has invited me to come with him to Baldwin this month for salmon fishing. Your rivers are smaller than what I was use to in Alaska but look more challenging for catching salmon. (log jams, etc.) I am looking forward to a great time fishing.
