Hey guys, sorry, this one will be short again… I’ve just had a few inquiries about reports and thought I’d better post something. John did a fine job in his April 1 report if you haven’t seen it and the truth is I haven’t updated, because nothing much has changed…

Andy had a great day putting some big browns to hand…

The one big improvement I’d say that’s happening is that the trout fishing has been really good most days for those targeting them. Streamers, spinners and small jerk baits are all working and we’ve even had some great dry fly opportunities. (Mostly black stones and a few blue winged olives on the right day.)

Nice work Karen!
One that didn’t get away…

Once again, I’ve been really lousy about getting and/or taking photos of the few fish we are catching and I’ve been fishing the lower river most days in hopes of finding new fish, but mostly finding drop backs instead and only getting beat up by the occasional new arrival.

Hungry drop backs have been the game…

This is officially the toughest spring Steelhead season that I can remember and it’s my 32nd one guiding in a row now… Why this is is anyone’s guess and the theories are too numerous to list. Simple fact is that we’re having a tough season and I guess that is just gonna happen every so often.

Great time as always Russ…

That being said, there’s certainly been plenty of spawning happening in our closed sections of river from said drop backs and I am not in any kind of panic mode by any means. Give me three or four seasons like this in a row and I’ll really start to worry, but I don’t think we’re there just yet.

Nice work…
Speaking of 32 years… I’ve spent about 30 of them with this guy in the boat for at least a day or two! As always, thanks Richard!!

Gotta cut this short now and go have some fun! Good luck if you go and enjoy your time on the water… 😎
