Shop Hours 7am to 7pm Daily

We are finally experiencing some fall weather.  It’s been cool & wet and it appears to be here for awhile.  This type of weather will get more fish moving and start bringing in some fall steelhead.  We have been spotting a couple steelies migrating most days when covering water…another week or ten days of salmon and then steelhead will become our main focus.  We tried drifting to one on Friday, but the kings kept pushing it around.  Very exciting when you can sight fish a fall steelhead!  Looking forward to more of that in the coming weeks!!!

The river conditions remain the same…low and clear.  We got a couple shots of rain that bumped the level a touch, but did nothing to the clarity.  We still have been fishing the middle and lower ends of the river covering water and searching for new fish…quality vs. quantity.  With that being said, more days then not, we have being finding plenty to keep us chasing fish all day with the net.  There are tons of kings spawning and new fish hitting the gravel shortly after entering the system.  The late arrivals are on a “mission”…swimming hard, not holding in the pools and joining the spawning party.  Great for our natural reproduction!  The trout are fat and happy with all the eggs tumbling down the river.

It’s been a great fall thus far!  Thank you very much for all your support at the shop, Motel and keeping our guides busy.  Hard work makes for a lot of fun times!!!!  We appreciate it and love having such a loyal customer base…THANK YOU!!!

All our Guides are booked solid until Mid-October and then we will start hunting for steelhead.  November is quickly approaching and we still have some great dates available for guide trips and/or lodging.  If you have never experienced a hot chrome fall steelhead on the Pere Marquette River; give us a call 231-745-3529.  It’s our guides favorite fish to chase and the most challenging to catch.  We are getting ready and we do it all…fly fishing, Floats & Beads, hardware and/or a mixed bag.

Another great week on the Pere Marquette River….Thank you to all our clients!!!!

We will be hosting our fall River Clean-Up on Saturday October 21…Please save the date and stay tuned for more details

PSA-

If you are parking at a state landing (M-37, Sulak, Walhalla or Twin Bridges) you will need a “Recreational Passport” parking permit.  If you are a Michigan resident, you can apply when renewing your License plate tabs or it can be purchased at a state park (NOT ON SITE….major problem!).  Unfortunately, there are very few State Parks near by and if you are a non-resident you will get a ticket. The sites do NOT have a pay at the site box.  This is just a PSA to give you a “heads up” and hopefully avoid a unwanted ticket.  Even licensed guides with their “State Land Use Permit” are getting tickets/warnings.  Just a heads-up!

Good luck out there!!!  Enjoy what we have and please do what you can to preserve and protect it!

Later,

John Karakashian
