Low, clear and tough describes the conditions here right now as best I can in three words, but if you work hard, make great presentations and cover some good water, you might just get rewarded with a hookup or a few…
We’ve had a few good pushes of fish that brought some decent numbers, but those fish have since spread out and wised up a bit. If everybody would just wash their cars today maybe we’d see the rain that we need? ;^) Seriously though, some precipitation beyond just a shower would be helpful, but I’m not seeing much of that in the forecast.
Eggs are still the main course, but nymphs and streamers (both swung and stripped) have been responsible for a few on the fly front, beads, spinners, small crank baits like Hot-n-tots, Wiggle Warts and the like are favored on the lure front and spawn is tops for bait. (Please be aware of regulations and only use where legal.)
You can argue limits, regulations, stocking programs and natural reproduction till you’re blue in the face, but the fact remains that every fish released is a fish that can be caught again and the “catch rate” goes up overall as a result during any given season making for more happy anglers all around sharing the limited resource. I guess what I’m “asking” is that if you don’t actually “need it” to feed yourself or your family please just consider releasing your catch for the next guy out enjoying the river…
Got a big group of veterans headed out with us this morning so I need to get off here and get some things ready, but I hope everyone is having some fun this fall enjoying Pure Michigan and I hope to see you out there if not in the shop, in our boats (Still have some great dates open!) or at the motel.
Till next time, take care, be well, be safe and be happy!! -Steve-
