Sorry for the big lapse is reports.  Things have been busy and frankly, we have been stuck in a holding pattern.  The weather this month has been unseasonably cool and wet.  The water level has been fluctuating and the cold weather has provided low production of hatches.  The streamer action has been good…not great.  Fly placement, color and profile has been key to success.  With the lack of dry fly opportunities the streamer card has been getting played very frequently.  The positive end of this weather pattern has been lots of very, very healthy trout throughout the system.  We should catch some very thick fish on dry flies once the weather breaks.

I did witness a pretty solid midday sulphur hatch a few days ago.  It was great to see the bugs flying and floating!!!  You never know what will happen and Mother Nature is hard to hold back.  I think things are going to break loose this weekend (if not sooner)?  I have been spotting a few hendrickson’s, Gray Drakes, sulphurs, BWO’s, small stones and black quills.

We are a little behind the hatch charts at the moment, but that will change quickly once the weather breaks. Look for report frequency to increase over the next 6 weeks.  We are on the edge of some very exciting dry fly fishing…I am not sure who is more excited me or the trout?!?  Sulphurs and Drakes coming soon (any day if not tonight?), hexes, hoppers, damsels and nighttime mousing…be ready it will happen.

Please enjoy the holiday weekend.  Travel safe and good luck on the water.  The shop is loaded up with flies, leaders, tippet, lines and all your lake fishing gear too.  I will type at you next week.

Later-
