Greetings from Alaska once again! Another week of fun and fish has passed and we are looking forward to the next one. This coming week is “anticipation” week for me as I have a few things to look forward to near and at the end of it…

My Contact crew last Sunday...

First off, as to that anticipation, my bike “should” be arriving in Naknek on the 20th! I cannot describe to you what that means to me, but suffice it to say I can then update my web site more often, do laundry as well as go to the store when needed without asking permission from “dad” for the keys to a car and explore a little more of the country around here during my off time. (Besides just the fact that I love riding and miss it while here! ;^)

Fly outs are by FAR my favorite thing to do here!

Secondly, I’m looking forward to some of my regular fall clients showing up next week on the 22nd! I’ve been trying to get Mike and Dan up here for some time now and they are coming along with sons Zach and Zane. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure I will enjoy the company of any and all clients tossed my way here as always, but there is something to be said for guiding old friends!

Heading in to Contact Creek.

That little pond is called “Postage Stamp” and is where we land, but can’t take off from with a load.

I was blessed with two fly outs this past week. One to Contact on Sunday and the other to Bucky’s on Thursday. Upon arrival at Postage Stamp on Sunday we were greeted by One sow with three cubs, one with a single older cub and a medium sized boar. Once on the river we got to observe these same bears as well as a few others doing their thing and that is always a highlight of the trip.

A new visitor as soon as we hit the water.

I think this guy was showing off, had to move away from him several times after he popped out of nowhere and went fishing.

Don’t let some of these the photos fool you into thinking we were foolish, sometimes moving away from the bear being photographed would only put you even closer to another, but it really didn’t matter as we were the very least of their concerns. Even got to watch a good size boar dive into a pool and successfully catch and eat a big Chum…

Chris with one of my favorite residents, glad to see that missing a year didn’t change the spot!

Isaac caught the first Contact Char of the season for me! Nice work buddy…

And he kept it up! ‘^)

Just after the mom and three cubs in the background passed.

Isaac doing good work on a Sockeye.

This guy popped out to check his hole.

Caught lots of Grayling on the day.

Another Charlie to hand for Scott.

I’ll have to go back and look at old pictures, but I believe he moved locations a bit from years past.

A little color on this surface crusher!

What’s not to love!?

Reckless abandon...

Max put Isaac on another fine specimen!

Just before the release of another.

Hey Dave, look behind you and let’s move downriver. Hehehe…

I’m zoomed and focused, but so is he!

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were pretty much Sockeye slam days for me, but I don’t mind. There’s actually quite a bit of fun to be had in fighting big fish and then harvesting them after spending the rest of the year being so gentle with everything you catch. Didn’t take very many pictures of the carnage as you’ve already seen it, but here’s a few.

The man, the myth, the legend!

Got assigned a great boat this year! Hard to keep them in good shape when they get passed around, but I’ve been lucky for the most part so far…

On Thursday I did the Bucky’s fly out with Don and Jerry. Unfortunately, I did not catch up with them before they left today to airdrop the photos we took on their Iphones of all the nice Rainbows and Grayling, but suffice it to say the fishing was good, not great yet, but that can change in a day…

Flight in.

Workin’ it.

Coming home…

It was a fairly light client week and a number of us got a day off for a nice little treat. Friday was my turn and it came at just the right time. I, along with many others, have been fighting the fireweed battle for some time now and depending on your level of allergy (Mine being very high these days.) it is very much like having the flu. I haven’t been able to breathe right or sleep thru a night without waking up hacking for hours on end for a couple of weeks now even with meds, but I bought a bottle of Nyquil on the way in from the fly out on Thursday and that has helped tremendously the past two nights. I’m still stuffed and hacking some, but actually feeling much better today after a couple of good night’s sleep.

Not much more to tell really, I’m happy to report that my wife Karen is taking a little me time at the moment with her sister and our convertible on a beach in Florida after a very trying year of taking care of me and getting pretty wounded herself in that accident. A HUGE thanks as always to my man Jake back home for house and dog sitting so that she can do this! You’re the best man!!

Till next time, tight lines…
