OK! Got a few minutes here again on transition day while I wait here at the airport for the next batch of new clients…
Another fine week in Alaska has come and gone with all sorts of fun and excitement for all. I spent most of my week with anglers Lynn and Dale for Sockeyes in the morning and trout in the afternoon, but did captain the green roof over to Brooks twice and shot over to Margot once to see what it looked like. (It looks like we’ll be fishing it this week! ;^)
Brothers Lynn & Dale were great guys to spend time with!
Time to go to work…
The Sockeyes are in fairly thick and you can limit out before noon on most days depending on the commercial netting situation. On a couple of days we did have to work for them, but I believe everyone is going home with what they hoped for.
The morning run can be quite interesting...
Along with the sockeyes come the bears and we are starting to see a few near camp on the roads, but none have been around the docks just yet that I know of. I’ve been training for my third marathon in October and have seen bears twice just a mile or so out. The Brooks population continues to grow each trip over and we are forced to break a lot of fish off when they take notice, but that’s all part of the fun!
A few Brooks bears...
The rainbows in the river are finding more and more food and some great fish are being caught each week. I think the 30” mark was broken several times this week and we are catching plenty in the mid to upper twenties area. I didn’t break the 30” mark or take any other rainbow shots on my camera this week so I stole one of the good ones from James to give you an idea.
This one was caught right in front of camp this week on a streamer.
I’m running short on time here now so I’ll cut this short, but keep in mind that it’s not too late to sign up and fill a few of our spots left in the weeks below for your own Alaskan adventure! The silvers will be running, the rainbows will be fat and we’ll still have pinks, chums and sockeyes around as well as a few kings.
It is truly spectacular up here and you owe it to yourself to experience it at least once!
Tight Lines All,
Steve
